Paso Robles is one of the most diverse AVAs in California and it's great to have found a producer who is not only unique in the region but also a rarity in the state. Giornata wines are beautifully made and come with a simple and genuine story. Brian and Stephanie Terrizzi have spent the last decade proving that California can make both interesting and high quality Italian varietal wines. Brian is the winemaker whilst Stephanie is the viticulturist - both trained at Fresno State University. After several years in Tuscany working and living with Brian’s family, they returned to Paso Robles to embark on their Giornata project. They’ve now found a range of sites with compelling vineyards of Aglianico, Barbera, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Fiano. Steph manages these sites and retains full control in the vineyard. Whilst the fruit quality is unmistakably new world, winemaking leans more towards the Italian style with an emphasis on balance and subtlety over intensity and extraction.
Giornata Aglianico wine goes through a long, cool fermentation and extended maceration of 2-4 weeks, partially carbonic. Native fermentation without wine additions helps keep the wine pure and balanced to best reflect the soil and vintage. Aged in Italian botte, neutral puncheon and stainless steel barrel for the carbonic. They added a bit of Petit Verdot to give the wine a bit more heft. A lovely noise of blueberry, almond, blue raspberry slushie and tobacco. On the palate there is blueberry, vanilla, berry and spice. Pair with a cheese burger, ribeye or lamb ragu.
Please note: All case wine orders can take between 7-10 days for delivery.
