Paso Robles is one of the most diverse AVAs in California and it's great to have found a producer who is not only unique in the region but also a rarity in the state. Giornata wines are beautifully made and come with a simple and genuine story. Brian and Stephanie Terrizzi have spent the last decade proving that California can make both interesting and high quality Italian varietal wines. Brian is the winemaker whilst Stephanie is the viticulturist - both trained at Fresno State University. After several years in Tuscany working and living with Brian’s family, they returned to Paso Robles to embark on their Giornata project. They’ve now found a range of sites with compelling vineyards of Aglianico, Barbera, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Fiano. Steph manages these sites and retains full control in the vineyard. Whilst the fruit quality is unmistakably new world, winemaking leans more towards the Italian style with an emphasis on balance and subtlety over intensity and extraction.
Il Campo Bianco wine is a spin on the classic coastal white table wines found all over the perimeter of Italy. Approachable and delicious.
Grapes are sourced from three vineyards; Blind Faith which is certified organic, Beato and Margett which is farmed organically without certification. A bladder press is used for the Falanghina and Vermentino and basket press for the Trebbiano, all of which are not destemmed. The wine is filtered and given minimal SO2.
On the nose you can get flint, sea air, lime zest, chalk, lemon pith and orange blossom. The palate has kiwi, banana smoothie, lemonheads, green juice, fruit cocktail and kumquat with a saline finish. Pair with any seafood crudo or grilled fish or as an aperitivo during cocktail hour.
