The 350ha Monte Schiavo estate in Marche is a testament to the Pieralisi family whose background was in olive oil manufacturing equipment, but 20 years ago began to invest in agriculture, also purchasing vineyards from the co-operative within Maiolati Spontini. They own a portfolio of prime vineyard within the Castelli di Jesi zone, and the Monte Schiavo winery is situated amongst some of their most prized plots, notably the Colle del Sole vineyard. The appointment of talented young winemaker Simone Schiaffino, and collaboration with renowned Italian winemaking consultant Carlo Ferrini since the 2015 vintage, has added a new depth and complexity to their portfolio. Monte Schiavo are in the process of converting to organic production.
Monte Schiavo Pallio di San Floriano Verdicchio Classico Superiore wine is a richly flavoured and complex late harvest Verdicchio from Monte Schiavo's prized 'Fossato' vineyard. Intense and persistent aromas of honey and almond blossom followed by more developed ripe fruit characters. Rich and full flavoured with concentrated peachy fruit balanced by crisp acidity and stony mineral notes. The finish is ripe and honeyed with zesty grapefruit and lime flavours. Enjoy this award-winning wine with grilled fish, pork, seafood risotto, or ravioli with cardoons.
