Gancedo is situated near the village of Quilós, about 10km from Ponferrada, in the north-western tip of Spain. The winery has 19 hectares of vines, the majority of which are between 60 and 100 years old, although there are also new plantings. The cellar was built in 2000 and is equipped with the best modern technology suited to production from these small plots. When required, only French oak barrels are used for maturation.
Xestal wine is a classically-styled old vine Mencia from the fashionable Bierzo region. A powerful nose with black fruit, violet and cherry characters. On the palate complex cassis, mocha and balsamic flavours combine with smooth tannins and hints of toast from the oak. Well-balanced yet retains finesse. Enjoy with roasted or grilled meats including venison and game.
