Dona Paula is a dynamic producer based in the heart of Mendoza. They acquired their first vineyard in 1997 in Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo. This is prime Malbec country and Doña Paula set their sights on terroir expression from the outset. They have subsequently added a further 3 estates in different areas of the Uco Valley, setting themselves up for longevity and consistency.
Dona Paula use only estate grown grapes, cultivated at high altitudes where the cooler temperatures allow the grapes to ripen slowly, developing complex and intense flavours. This example of Argentina's favourite varietal shows great complexity and is a great example of why Malbec has such potential here.
The grapes are hand-picked the first week of April. In the winery, they are destemmed gently, without breaking the berries. Then, a cold pre-fermentative maceration is carried out to preserve the primary aromas. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures, and a post-fermentation maceration is later performed for 15 to 20 days. The wine is aged in first, second and third-use French oak barrels for 9 months.
Dona Paula Estate Malbec wine is intense violet in colour. This wine is full of black fruit, violets and spice, with a fantastic mineral backbone. Try this wine with red meat such as beef tenderloin medallions.
