Graziano followed his father and grandfather into the wine business, studying oenology, and taking over the family winery in the early 1980s. He bottled his first Soave vintage in 1983. Graziano now also produces red wines from his La Morandina estate in Valpolicella, and his reputation continues to grow. However, for many, his name is still synonymous with Soave - where he is regarded as one of a handful of world class producers who have revitalised the region.
Graziano's Monte Grande is unusual amongst the Prà Soave portfolio in that it is a blend of Garganega with a portion (20-30%) of Trebbiano di Soave. Not to be confused with the more common Trebbiano Toscano variety (France's Ugni Blanc) - the Trebbiano di Soave grape is now believed to be Verdicchio and adds perfume and texture to the resulting wine. The blend of grapes, partial drying of the Garganega grapes on the vine, along with the fantastic single vineyard site and fermentation in large oak casks - are all a factor in the wine's tremendous complexity and elegance. This has earned Monte Grande a fantastic reputation and a series of great reviews, including no less than 8 Tre Bicchieri awards!
Prà Monte Grande Soave Classico wine has a ripe, open nose and beguiling aromas of peach, preserved lemon and dried mango, laced with honey and savoury notes. The palate is pure and fresh with great concentration of stone fruit, pineapple and citrus characters and further savoury notes. Good acidity lends a fine, balanced complexity to a citrus finish. Delicious now but will also develop over 5+ years bottle ageing. Fantastic with a goat’s cheese, basil and roasted red pepper salad; asparagus or fish such as turbot sprinkled with lemon juice and olive oil. Try too with stir-fried Cantonese dishes featuring fresh vegetables and/or tiger prawns.

Prà Monte Grande Soave Classico 2019: “Lovely aromas of honeyed pear, gooseberry and white cherry with a hint of sweet butter biscuit. Turns to rich pineapple on the medium palate. Intense, lightly spiced fruit flavours drive the very long finish. Classy. 93pts.” JamesSuckling.com (22nd June ’21)
